Sand Sharks Fall in Series Finale Against Middle Georgia

HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team closed out its three-game series against the Middle Georgia Knights. The Knights used a late rally to come back and defeat the Sand Sharks, 5–3.

USCB is now 25–17 on the season with a 7–11 conference record, while MGA improves to 14–22 overall with a 6–12 Peach Belt Conference record.

The Sand Sharks struck first in the series finale. After Conway reached on an error, Tamiyah Whitlock delivered an RBI single to drive her in for an early 1–0 lead.

Looking to add more, USCB started the second inning with back-to-back singles, but Middle Georgia worked out of the jam to keep the score at 1–0. The Sand Sharks extended their lead in the third inning following a scoreless top half.

Conway and Whitlock both singled before a walk by Saria Simmons loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by Taelor Chang scored Conway, giving USCB a 2–0 lead through three innings.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Knights got on the board. A walk and an error put two runners on before Cosgrove hit an RBI groundout to make it 2–1.

USCB answered in the fifth inning. A walk and an error helped score Saria Simmons, extending the lead back to 3–1 through five innings of play.

Middle Georgia responded again, as a runner reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 3–2.

The Knights completed their comeback in the seventh inning. After tying the game on a Sand Sharks error, back-to-back walks with the bases loaded pushed Middle Georgia ahead 5–3.

The Sand Sharks got a hit from Chloe Turner in the bottom of the seventh, but the Knights escaped the inning to seal the 5–3 victory.

USCB returns to action on Friday, April 17, with a three-game road series against Augusta University.
