Sand Sharks Rally to Comeback and Win over No. 23/26 ranked Eckerd College

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team closed out a three-game series against Eckerd College with a 3–2 victory over the No. 26/23-ranked Tritons. USCB used a two-run ninth-inning comeback to secure the win in the series finale.

Tyler Gundelfinger and Terry Dean each recorded an RBI for the Sand Sharks, while Noah Campbell, Nicholas Barcelo, and Luke Doty each scored a run. The Sand Sharks bullpen combined for six scoreless innings, highlighted by two shutout frames from Cole Thomas, who earned the win.

In Sunday's pitcher's duel, both teams remained scoreless through two innings before Eckerd struck first in the bottom of the third. A single and a stolen base set up Joey Bazydlo's RBI double to plate the game's first run. After a walk, Eckerd added another RBI double to extend the lead to 2–0.

The Sand Sharks threatened in response with two baserunners via a walk and a single, but the inning ended on a strikeout.

The score remained 2–0 until the seventh inning, when Kris Levensteins drew a leadoff walk. Back-to-back doubles, first from Raeder McIntire and then an RBI double from Dean, put USCB on the board, cutting the deficit to 2–1. Eckerd managed to escape further damage and maintained the lead.

The game stayed at 2–1 into the top of the ninth. Dean led off by reaching on a hit-by-pitch, and a wild pitch later allowed pinch runner Luke Doty to score the tying run. Gundelfinger followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Campbell, giving the Sand Sharks a 3–2 lead.

Eckerd put a runner on with a one-out single in the ninth, but a pickoff at first recorded the second out. A flyout to left field ended the game, sealing the 3–2 victory for USCB.

The Sand Sharks return home for a four-game stretch next week, beginning Tuesday against Savannah State. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on the 14th.
