HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team wrapped up its 2026 season Sunday afternoon with a tough 13–12 loss to Middle Georgia State University, as a four-run eighth inning lifted the Knights to a late comeback victory.
USCB was powered offensively by Tyler Gundelfinger, who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Mitchell Singletary added a home run and drove in three runs while scoring twice, and Kris Levensteins contributed a hit and two RBIs. Maddox Robinson crossed the plate three times, and Cole Thomas tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout on the mound.
The Sand Sharks struck first after a scoreless opening frame. A leadoff single and stolen base set the tone before Gundelfinger delivered a two-RBI double to give USCB a 2–0 lead. Nicholas Barcelo followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 3–0.
Middle Georgia responded in the third inning with four runs to take its first lead. An RBI double and RBI single got things started, followed by a bases-loaded walk to tie the game. Another RBI single gave the Knights a 4–3 edge.
USCB answered immediately with a five-run bottom of the third. Gundelfinger singled to lead off the inning before Levensteins drove in two runs to reclaim the lead. Singletary then launched a three-run home run, scoring Mack Cromer and Levensteins, to push the Sand Sharks ahead 8–4.
The Knights chipped away in the fourth, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to one. However, USCB responded again in the bottom half. A sacrifice fly from Jon Davis and a successful double steal that brought Gundelfinger home extended the lead to 10–7.
The Sand Sharks added two more runs in the fifth when Gundelfinger singled to center, driving in a pair and stretching the lead to 12–7.
Middle Georgia continued to rally, scoring once in both the sixth and seventh innings to trim the deficit to 12–9. The decisive moment came in the eighth, when three consecutive RBI singles fueled a four-run inning, giving the Knights a 13–12 lead.
Middle Georgia sealed the win with a perfect ninth inning, completing the comeback and handing the Sand Sharks a narrow loss to close out the season.
