BLUFFTON, SC-USCB Head Baseball Coach Rick Sofield has announced the first four new signees for the 2010-11 season.
ERIK ARMSTRONG—Jupiter, FL—catcher/infielder, brother plays at Vanderbilt, son of Jack Armstrong, a former major leaguer with the Reds and Indians. Played for Coach Doug Ferguson at Juptier HS leading the Warriors to a 21-6 season in 2010. He was named to the Palm Coast Post All Area team and selected to play in the prestigious Dick Howser Senior Showcase.
ANDREW BOYLL-Shelburn, IN-shortstop—had a .459 batting average his senior year at Central HS including seven home runs and 39 stolen bases in 40 attempts. “Coming to USCB to pursue both baseball and education goals and help the Sand Shark baseball team continue their rise toward the top of both the Sun Conference and NAIA.”
BRETT MARTIN-Deerfield Beach, FL-catcher/infielder-a power hitter who spent the past season at Garrett (MD) College where he hit .432 for Coach Eric Hallenbeck. His 20 doubles ranked him in the top ten in national junior college statistics.
DANIEL WASS- Pensacola, FL-middle infielder—a transfer from Faulkner State (AL) where he hit .300 with 41 rbi's this past season for the Wayne Larker coached Alabama state junior college champions who ended the 2010 season with a 38-19 record.
Coach Sofield believes these four all bring a great deal of athletic ability to the Sand Sharks along with tremendous leadership qualities.
Sofield is expected to announce the addition of more recruits later in the summer.
