June 7, 2011 was a memorable day in the short history of the University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team. Two players, with Sand Shark ties, were selected in the MLB Draft and have now signed contracts and are continuing towards their professional aspirations.
Dexter Price, a junior pitcher from Colorado Springs, CO, was selected in the 30
th Round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since being drafted two weeks ago Price has moved from Bluffton, SC to Missoula, MT. Price will be pitching for the Missoula Ospreys, a Rookie Affliate of the Diamondbacks. To follow Price you can visit

Deion Williams, was drafted in the 16
th Round by the Washington Nationals, and would have been an incoming freshmen for the Sand Sharks. Williams signed with Rookie Affiliate of the Nationals in the Gulf Coast League. Williams can be followed at

Coach Sofield said, “I'm excited for both Dexter and Deion. It's a long road to the Major Leagues. Hopefully, it works out and they won't need the college degree. Both are talented enough now and will see if mentally tough enough. We wish them the best. We will miss both of them, but will still plan on being in the mix for a championship. We have players very eager to take both of their places.”
