Sand Shark Soccer Rallies For 3-2 Win At Warner

Box Score

LAKE WALES, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team snapped out of a scoring drought just in time to claim a key Sun Conference victory, scoring three goals in the second half Sunday to rally for a 3-2 road win over Warner.

Junior Alexa Muffley broke a four-game scoreless streak for USCB and freshman Bridgette Noonan scored the tying and winning goals as the Sand Sharks (5-8-1, 2-4 TSC) snapped a four-game losing streak and bolstered their postseason hopes.

The Sand Sharks controlled play in the first half but found themselves in a 2-0 hole at the break. USCB changed things quickly in the second half, as Alexa Muffley put away a corner kick from Jessica Tooley less than three minutes into the half to cut the deficit in half.

USCB tied it in the 53rd minute, when Olivia Dizon beat the defense and played a low cross into the box for Noonan, who booted in her first collegiate goal. Noonan struck again in the 68th minute, taking a pass from senior Sinéad Byrne and making a one-on-one move to beat the defender and place a shot into the side netting.

"We were able to refocus, reenergize and motivate the team in the second half," USCB coach Ed Heberling said. "The team responded well and the girls played with some extra effort and heart to outwork Warner in the second half."

The Sand Sharks will try to maintain that momentum this week, when they travel to SCAD Savannah for a match with the rival Bees at 7 p.m. Friday and hit the road for a non-conference contest against St. Andrews (N.C.) on Sunday.

"The second half was a much better performance that we need to build from moving forward," Heberling said. "Our team can play at a high level, but we need to be more consistent from the start and through the entire match."
