Sand Shark Soccer Hosts Thomas For Homecoming Clash

USCB (4-5-1, 1-1 TSC) vs. Thomas (5-3-0, 2-0), 3 p.m. Friday

The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team hosts Sun Conference rival Thomas (Ga.) for its homecoming game Friday at Fin Land Field. The Sand Sharks begin the second weekend of Sun Conference play after earning a split in Miami last weekend, beating Florida Memorial and losing to No. 16 St. Thomas. The Sand Sharks will continue homecoming weekend Sunday, facing No. 2 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) at 1 p.m.

The homecoming celebration will continue after the game with USCB's inaugural homecoming concert featuring Eric Hutchinson and special guest Ella Mae Bowen playing on USCB's Hilton Head Gateway Campus. Gates open at 5 p.m., and tickets and information are available at uscb.edu/homecoming.

ABOUT THOMAS

The Night Hawks come in riding a four-game winning streak and receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. They have allowed only one goal in their past three contests. Thomas beat Warner 1-0 and topped Webber International 3-1 last weekend to open conference action. Carina Spengler is the team's top offensive threat, leading the squad with nine goals and 19 points. Goalkeeper Deanna Rivet boasts a 2.02 goals against average and has one shutout to her credit.


SAND SHARK BITES

• Junior MF/F Steph Moldenhauer now owns USCB's single-season records for goals (5) and points (12), as well as the school's career marks for goals (9) and points (21). 

• Junior GK Chelsie Mummert ranks second in the Sun Conference in saves (62) and third in saves per game (6.2). Mummert has recorded three shutouts this season and eight in her career.

• The Sand Sharks are 2-5 all-time against teams from the state of Georgia and won their only previous meeting with a representative of the Peach State this season, beating Brewton-Parker 2-0 on Sept. 12.
