Sand Shark Soccer Hosts Erskine On Tuesday

The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team looks to notch consecutive wins for the first time this season when the Sand Sharks host NCAA Division II foe Erskine College at Fin Land Field. The Sand Sharks are coming off a 2-0 victory over Brewton-Parker on Thursday. It's the final home game for USCB until Homecoming weekend, when the Sand Sharks host Thomas (Ga.) on Oct. 4 and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Oct. 6.

ABOUT ERSKINE

After losing their final nine games last season — and finishing 3-12-1 — the Flying Fleet have dropped their first four games this year by a combined score of 16-2 and have been shut out in their last two contests. Erskine has been blanked eight times during its 13-game losing streak. The contest is the final tune-up for the Flying Fleet before opening Conference Carolinas play this weekend.  

SAND SHARK BITES

• The Sand Sharks have outscored their opponents by an aggregate of 11-10 and have outshot their opponents 100-86 overall and 55-46 in shots on goal. 

• Junior Alexa Muffley and freshman Brittany Lorentz each have three goals and two assists for a total of eight points, which is only two points shy of the single-season program record set by Jessica Tooley last season.  

• Muffley, Lorentz and junior Steph Moldenhauer are tied for the team lead with three goals — one shy of last year's team-leading total — and Muffley, Lorentz and Tooley each have two assists. 

• Junior Chelsie Mummert made eight saves against Brewton-Parker to record her second shutout of the season and the seventh of her career. Mummert ranks third in the Sun Conference in saves (35), seventh in goals against average (1.61) and fourth in saves per game (5.83). 

• USCB is 1-3 all-time against in-state opponents, going 1-0 vs. Converse College, 0-1 vs. USC Aiken and 0-2 vs. Columbia College. The Sand Sharks are 0-1 this season against fellow Palmetto State squads.
