MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 7-1 defeat at NCAA Division I Alabama State on Sunday.
Aaliyah Lewis scored three goals and twin sister Ariela Lewis added two as the Hornets (4-5) scored the game's final six goals.
The Sand Sharks (3-4-1) got off to a promising start in their first regular-season match against a Division I opponent, answering an early goal from Aaliyah Lewis when Pascale Rocca scored off an assist from Jessica Tooley to tie it at 1 in the 20th minute. Rocca has scored both of her goals in the past two games, and Tooley's four assists lead the team.
Alabama State's team speed and athleticism proved to be too much for the Sand Sharks to overcome, though, as Ariela Lewis scored both of her goals before halftime and the Hornets outscored USCB 4-0 in the second half.
The Sand Sharks return home to train this week before opening Sun Conference play with a two-game road trip to Florida Memorial on Friday and St. Thomas on Sunday.
