MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team had to settle for a split on its trip to Miami to open Sun Conference play, as the Sand Sharks fell 7-0 on Sunday to 17th-ranked St. Thomas.
USCB opened the road trip with an impressive 3-0 victory at Florida Memorial on Friday but was unable to maintain its high level of play against the undefeated Bobcats (7-0-1, 2-0 Sun Conference).
The Sand Sharks (4-5-1, 1-1) couldn't generate many scoring chances against a strong Bobcats team, forcing goalkeeper Ariana Lorenzo to make only one save.
Amyah Banks opened the scoring in the 12th minute with the first of her two goals, and Melony Poviones scored in the 21st, 53rd and 73rd minutes to record a hat trick. Sara Mira also scored two goals.
The Sand Sharks return home to face Sun Conference rival Thomas (Ga.) for their homecoming game at 3 p.m. Friday at Fin Land Field.
