HARDEEVILLE — The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team posted a pair of shutout victories Saturday, wrapping up the Smash Hit Classic by blanking Bryan (Tenn.) 7-0 and 4-0 at Richard Gray Sports Complex.

Kristy Cook and Caitlin Campbell combined on a five-hitter in the first game and Ashlie Layman threw a one-hitter in the finale as 12th-ranked USCB (18-4) ran its home record to 11-1.

Chelsey Blasingame broke a scoreless tie with an RBI triple in the second, and USCB erupted for five runs in the fifth. Shelby Zipperer started the big inning with a two-run single through the right side and Taylor Triplett followed later in the frame with a three-run blast to left-center — her team-leading sixth homer of the season.

Amanda Brown added a solo shot to center in the sixth. Brown and Missy Hughes each had two hits for the Sand Sharks.

Cook (7-2) didn't allow a hit until Katie Vaughn's single leading off the fourth. The Lions threatened in the fifth, but Cook stranded two runners with an inning-ending strikeout. Cook allowed four hits and walked one while striking out four over six innings.

The Sand Sharks staked Layman to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the finale, as Alexandria Simmons knocked in the first run with a single and scored when Sam Boland reached on an error.

Hughes added a pair of insurance runs with a two-run single in the sixth, but Layman didn't need them.

Layman (8-0) held the Lions hitless until Heather Daniel's two-out single to left in the sixth. She struck out nine and walked four in a complete game, improving to 19-0 in her career.

The Sand Sharks continue their homestand Friday, opening their Sun Conference title defense with a doubleheader against Southeastern (Fla.) at 1 p.m.
