The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team was unable to find the net for the second consecutive game, falling 3-0 to a strong Westminster (Utah) squad Monday at Fin Land Field.Â
The short-handed Sand Sharks, playing without a number of key players including senior midfielder Alexa Muffley because of injuries, weren't able to break through against Westminster, which has not allowed a goal while winning its first three games — including a victory over NCAA Division I Weber State.Â
The Griffins (3-0) broke through in the 22nd minute, when Miranda Olsen played a long ball to Rylei North, who placed a left-footed shot inside the far post. The Sand Sharks settled in and kept Westminster off the board for the remainder of the half to remain within a goal at the break.Â
USCB (1-2) couldn't mount much of an attack, though, and the Griffins tacked on a goal in the 61st minute when Lexi Tucker floated a long shot just out of keeper Fred Gallman's reach. Westminster iced it in the 78th minute, when the Sand Sharks gave away the ball deep in their half and Jessica James beat Gallman.Â
The Sand Sharks continue their four-game homestand this weekend, hosting St. Andrews at 5 p.m. Friday and Talladega at noon Sunday.Â
