MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team was unable to pick up its second consecutive victory Friday, falling 5-0 at St. Thomas in Sun Conference play.
The Sand Sharks registered the first shot of the game off Brittany Lorentz's foot but didn't manage much of an attack the rest of the afternoon. The Bobcats scored two quick goals in the 12th and 16th minutes and didn't let up.
"Inconsistent play and lacking a true passion for the game continues to hurt us," USCB coach Ed Heberling said. "We came out way too flat and without energy, and STU jumped on us. Two easy goals put us down early, and we were unable to fight back."
St. Thomas added a third goal in the 22nd minute for a 3-0 halftime lead and tacked on scores in the 53rd and 58th minute to produce the final margin.
The Sand Sharks continue their weekend road trip with a key Sun Conference match at Florida Memorial at 2 p.m. Sunday.
"For us to be successful we have to be able to put actions to our words," Heberling said. "Success will not come until we are consistent and play with passion and energy."
