Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team swept to two more mercy-rule victories Friday, beating Brewton-Parker 11-1 in six innings and 18-5 in five innings in a non-conference doubleheader.
The Sand Sharks (6-0) have ended all six of their games early by virtue of the eight-run mercy rule.Â
USCB jumped out to a 6-0 lead through two innings in the opener, scoring five in the first with two-run homers by Mariaha Sanborn and Shelby Zipperer and adding a single run in the second. Zipperer added a two-run double in the four-run sixth as the Sand Sharks broke it open.
Kristy Cook (3-0) pitched five innings for the win, striking out four — including the 400th strikeout of her career — and allowing one run on three hits. Kendall Jumper allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless sixth in her season debut.Â
Ashlie Layman (3-0) pitched four innings to earn the win in the second game with freshman Allie Rogers working a scoreless fifth.Â
Each team scored four runs in the first inning before USCB racked up 11 runs in the third to turn it into a rout.Â
The Sand Sharks are back in action next Friday, playing a doubleheader at Coastal Georgia starting at 1 p.m.
