MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team rallied for a 10-9 victory in a wild series opener Friday at Florida Memorial.
The Sand Sharks took advantage of 10 Lions errors to claim the opener of the three-game Sun Conference series.
Florida Memorial's 10th error of the day allowed John Cloyd to score the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth and Blake Drew (2-2) worked his second scoreless inning of the afternoon in the bottom half to finish it off for USCB.
The Sand Sharks (12-4, 4-3 TSC) had to play catch-up all day, trailing 2-0, 6-4, 8-6 and 9-8 before answering to tie it in the next half inning each time. Zack Saldivar and Josh Reinhart each had a hit, an RBI and scored twice for USCB.Â
The series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.Â
NOTES: USCB head coach Bryan Lewallyn picked up his 99th career win and needs two more to match Rick Sofield for the program's all-time lead. … USCB improved to 17-3 all-time against Florida Memorial including an 8-2 mark in Miami Gardens. … The Sand Sharks have scored 10 or more runs in eight of their 16 games and are averaging nine runs per contest.
