HARDEEVILLE — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Sun Conference rival Embry-Riddle on Saturday at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
The Sand Sharks lost 10-6 and 18-2 as the Eagles finished a sweep of the three-game series.
USCB (22-12, 9-9 TSC) was unable to overcome a rocky first inning in the first game, as Embry-Riddle scored five unearned runs in the opening frame and never gave up the lead.
Ashly Morris went 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored twice, Kyle Thompson had two hits and an RBI, Josh Reinhart was 2-for-3 and scored a run, and Chaztin Venezia added two RBIs for USCB. Jamie Strock (4-4) was hung with the loss, allowing nine runs — four earned — in 5 2/3 innings.
Two more big innings did in the Sand Sharks in the finale, as Embry-Riddle plated seven runs in the fourth and six in the seventh.
Zack Saldivar went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Alex Bonilla had an RBI single for USCB. Gage Roth (2-1) took the loss, allowing five runs over three innings.
The Sand Sharks are scheduled for a single game at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Armstrong State in Savannah, Ga., and a single game at 1 p.m. Wednesday against visiting Benedict College. USCB hosts Ave Maria for a three-game Sun Conference series Friday and Saturday.
