Box Score GULF SHORES, Ala. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team was unable to pull off its third victory over a ranked opponent this weekend when the Sand Sharks lost 3-1 to No. 3 Reinhardt on Sunday to end their run at the Gulf Coast Invitational.
USCB knocked off No. 1 Auburn-Montgomery and No. 11 Belhaven while going 2-2 in pool play before opening Silver bracket play with the loss to the Eagles.
Randi Wimpy's two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and USCB was unable to rally against Reinhardt pitcher Maddie Luck.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before Haley Brown's home run leading off the fourth tied it at 1. USCB pitcher Kristy Cook had retired 12 straight batters before Andrea Eison's two-out single kept the inning alive for Wimpy's homer.
The 24th-ranked Sand Sharks stranded two runners in the sixth and one in the seventh as Reinhardt held on.
USCB is back in action Tuesday with a doubleheader at Georgia Gwinnett at noon before returning home to face Bryan College in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Friday.
