BABSON PARK, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team came up short in the opener of its three-game Sun Conference series at Webber International on Friday, losing 3-1 to the Warriors.
Trevor Jones and two relievers held the Sand Sharks to two hits — an Ashly Morris double in the seventh and pinch-hitter Alex Bonilla's RBI single in the ninth.
USCB senior Junior Delatorre (7-3) matched Jones for most of the night, taking a shutout into the sixth before the Warriors broke through with three runs.
The Sand Sharks (29-18, 13-12 TSC) are tied with the Warriors (31-19, 13-12) for fifth place in the Sun Conference and can clinch a spot in the six-team conference tournament with a split of Saturday's doubleheader, which is scheduled to begin at noon.
