The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team looks to even its record when the Sand Sharks host Bethel (Tenn.) for a non-conference contest at noon Sunday on Youth Day at Fin Land Field. There will be giveaways and special activities for young fans in attendance. USCB hopes to bounce back following a 4-2 loss to visiting Middle Georgia in Friday's season-opener. The Sand Sharks were down a player for nearly 80 minutes after an early red card but still managed to outshoot the Knights and put 11 shots on goal. Senior Pascale Rocca scored both goals for USCB.
SCOUTING BETHEL
The Wildcats are USCB's second straight opponent from the Southern States Athletic Conference and are coming off a 3-0 defeat at SCAD Savannah in their season-opener Friday. Bethel returns its top offensive player from last year's 5-10 squad in Melinda Sopka, who led the team in goals (4) and points (9) a year ago. Sopka recorded two of Bethel's three shots on goal against the Bees. Goalkeeper Danielle Krzyzaniak made seven saves against SCAD as she looks to build on a strong freshman campaign in 2014, when she posted a 1.644 goals against average and made 106 saves while starting all 15 games.
NOTES
• Senior MF Pascale Rocca netted the first multi-goal game of her career Friday, scoring both of USCB's goals in the second half vs. Middle Georgia. Rocca has six career goals and already has matched her high for a season, tying her two goals each as a freshman and sophomore.
• Senior MF Alexa Muffley was credited with an assist against Middle Georgia, giving her 26 career points and breaking a tie with former Sand Shark Stephanie Moldenhauer atop USCB's career charts. Muffley also is the program's career leader in goals (11).
• Sophomore D Brittany Pacifico is entering her third year with the Sand Sharks but made her first appearance in a collegiate game Friday. Pacifico came off the bench against Middle Georgia to make her debut after missing her first two seasons with injuries suffered during preseason training.
