#SandSharkBaseball Racks Up 42 Runs In Sweep Of Barons

HARDEEVILLE – The seventh-ranked USCB baseball team tied the single-game school record for runs in both games of a doubleheader sweep of visiting Brewton-Parker on Tuesday, pounding the Barons 21-3 and 21-2 at Richard Gray Sports Complex.

USCB put up 21 runs in the inaugural 2009 season against Florida Memorial and matched the mark earlier this season – also against the Lions – before tying it twice more Tuesday. The Sand Sharks (27-4) have outscored the Barons 81-6 in four meetings this season.

Every starter had at least one hit in the opener and seven players recorded multiple hits. Thomas Estopare went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and scored a school-record five runs, while Kal Davis was 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs. Matt Kianka (3-for-6, 2 R, 3 RBIs), Brandon Joyce (3-for-5, R, 2 RBIs), Michael Johnson (2-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBIs) and Keith Ezersky (2-for-3, R, 2 RBIs) also had big games, and Max Balter went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and four runs.

Justin Kortessis (4-0) earned the win, allowing three runs – two earned – on five hits over five innings with four strikeouts and six walks. Eric Ezersky worked around three walks in two scoreless frames.

The bats kept ringing in the finale, as Davis led the charge, going 2-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs. With 10 RBIs in the doubleheader, Davis has 45 and ranks fourth on USCB's single-season list, 12 behind Ashly Morris and Brandon Collins.

Kianka (2-for-3, 3 R, 4 RBIs), Balter (2-for-3, 3 R, 3 RBIs), Johnson (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI), and John Cloyd (2-for-2, 4 R, RBI) also had big games at the plate, and Joyce went 1-for-2 and scored four runs.

Zach Massengale (3-1) allowed one run and five hits over four innings for the win, and Joe Schaffhauser, Forrest Kirsch and Blake Drew each worked an inning in relief.

The Sand Sharks return to Sun Conference play this weekend, playing a three-game series at Warner. The teams are slated for a doubleheader beginning at noon Friday and a single game at noon Saturday.
