Box Score 2 COLUMBIA – The USCB softball team picked up two victories – including one that pushed their coach past a milestone – with a doubleheader sweep at Columbia College on Friday.
The Sand Sharks beat the Fighting Koalas 4-3 and 3-0 behind strong pitching and defense, giving coach Laura Heberling her 100th and 101st career wins as USCB's head coach. Heberling is 101-42 in three seasons leading the Sand Sharks.
"This milestone happened because of past and current players winning great ball games, great assistant coaches working day in and day out to push these players to be the best, great fans who drive all over to watch us play, great support staff, and my great family and friends," Heberling said. "Thank you. This is all because of you."
Marissa Becker drove in two runs, and Missy Hughes and Emma Erwin each added an RBI in the first game, as freshman Abby Pac pitched a complete game to earn the win.
Naomi Catt threw a shutout in the second game, as Bailey Craven and Alexa Moore drove in runs.
The Sand Sharks (20-17) have won five of their past six games and nine of their past 12. USCB continues Sun Conference play Sunday at Thomas with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
