The USCB women's soccer team wraps up its four-game home stand against Brenau (Ga.) at 1 p.m. Monday at Fin Land Field.
The contest continues Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, as the Sand Sharks will wear special uniforms throughout the month of September honoring children who have fought or are currently fighting cancer. Fans will be granted free admission to home games throughout the month with donation of a new stuffed animal or board game to be donated to patients at area hospitals, and cash donations will go to Leo's Legacy, a local charity supporting families of children battling the disease.
USCB is trying to snap a two-game losing streak and is coming off a disappointing 2-0 loss to visiting Faulkner (Ala.) on Saturday. The Sand Sharks dominated the match, outshooting the Eagles 22-4, but were unable to take advantage of numerous scoring chances and gave up two breakaway goals late in the match.
Despite the consecutive losses, the Sand Sharks have matched the best four-game start in program history at 2-2 and have a chance to match the 2014 team for the best five-game start with a victory.
The Golden Tigers will provide a strong test for the Sand Sharks, as Brenau has posted shutouts in each of its first two matches. After opening the season with a 4-0 win over Point (Ga.), the Golden Tigers blanked SCAD Savannah 1-0 on Saturday behind a first-half goal from Jensen Meaux. Sophomores Ashley Spring and Anela Melton each have made one start and posted one shutout in goal for Brenau.
