@USCBSoccer Wins at JWU; Earns TSC Playoff Berth

North Miami, FL—In a complete downpour the Sand Sharks were able to push through the elements and secure the 7th seed in the Sun Conference playoffs by defeating Johnson & Wales University 2-1 this afternoon and getting help from St. Thomas University (Fla.).

Going into the match the Sand Sharks needed a win over rival JWU and a SCAD Savannah loss to St. Thomas University. Both of those scenarios played out in favor of USCB.
After a tightly contested first half, the Sand Sharks pushed the pace in the early going of the second, but it was the Wildcats who were able to strike first when Savannah Jackson netted a one-on-one goal off a ball from teammate Soleil Duplain.

With the playoff situation completely understood, the Sand Sharks rallied to score two goals to ice the game. Daniella Borjas played a ball across the box to Brooke Newman, who netted her second goal of the season. MJ Orduna added the game-winning goal 6 minutes later when the Wildcats misplayed a ball at the top of the box and she was able to strike the lower right corner of the open net.

After the game, Coach Ed Heberling said, "It was great to see the team show up ready to play today. It was a great team win for us, and we are looking forward to working hard this week in practice to prepare for playoffs."

The USCB women's soccer team will  now head to second-seeded Southeastern University (Fla.) next Saturday in an opening round Sun Conference playoff match. Kickoff time is yet to be determined.
