Bluffton, SC-- The USCB women's soccer walked away with a 2-2 draw with Webber International this afternoon at Fin Land Field.
In a game just about went down the middle, statistically, it seemed almost right the game would end in a draw after 110 minutes of action.
Melissa Fichtner got the Sand Sharks on the board early, when she put away a set piece taken by
Dina Stalnacke in the 6th minute of play. The early goal swung momentum in the way of USCB until Webber was able to find their response in the 27th minute when Megan Warner slipped a ball inside the far post to knot the score at 1.
It took 7 minutes for Fichtner to record her second of the match, and third of the season, when she scored the diving header off another serve from Stalnacke. The two assists for Stalnacke today mark her first two collegiate points.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading opportunities, but it was Webber that would find a stroke of luck. In the 70th minute of the match, the Warriors were given a penalty from a hand ball, and Saoirse Browne converted from the spot to tie the score that would hold for the remainer of the match.
Two overtime periods were played, but neither team was able to connect all of the pieces in the final third to find the winning tally.
In goal,
Logan Leask continued to be a staple for USCB, collecting 9 saves on the day.
USCB will now travel to #3 Southeastern this Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. tilt with the Fire. Live stats and video will be available for the game.
