Hardeeville, SC- The USCB baseball team bounced back from a tough road trip last weekend with a 14-4 win over visiting Benedict College (SC) this afternoon at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
The scoring started in the bottom of the second inning and the Sand Sharks scored in all the remaining innings to put the game out of reach for the Tigers. The strong offensive performance from
Alex Murphy continued with his second home run of the season and now brings him to a team-leading 10 RBI's on the year.
Kelvin Brito hit his second triple of the season in the fifth inning, which brought his RBI total for the season to six. At the plate, freshman
Hunter Helms continued his impressive start to the year, going 2-3 with three runs scored.
Defensively the Sand Sharks put together one of their more solid performances this year. The Benedict Tigers are a team known for getting guys on base and then looking to advance runners through the small-ball approach. One of the defining moments for the Sand Sharks defensive play was a 5-3-2 double play in the fourth inning that energized the team and set the tone for the remainder of the game.Â
Other highlights from the day include:
- -Â Â Â Â Kevin Ortiz-Arroyo earning a win in his first start on the hill for the Sand Sharks this season
- -Â Â Â Â Brito hitting an RBI triple to right center
- -    Murphy hitting a two-run home run in the fourth
- -Â Â Â Â Michael Grunder hitting a 2-RBI single down the left field line in the seventh
USCB baseball will be back at it again this Friday and Saturday when they renew their Sun Conference rivalry with visiting Florida Memorial. The double-header on Friday begins at 1 pm and the single game Saturday is set for 12 pm.
