Cochran, GA-- The USCB baseball team was unable to get the win last night at Stuckey Field, falling to the No. 15-ranked Knights of Middle Georgia State University 4-14.
To begin the game, the Sand Sharks'
Noah Matthews was able to reach first on a walk before
Alex Murphy found the RBI-double down the left field line to bring Matthews home for the first score of the game.
Hunter Helms got things rolling in the second inning with his single to shallow center,
Keith Olmo doubled to left-center, bringing home Helms. Matthews then doubled to deep left field to bring Olmo across the plate.
Tristan Triplett reached first on a walk before Murphy found another double, this time going to deep left-center to score Matthews.
The Sand Sharks were unable to score beyond the second frame of the game, as solid pitching and defense from the Knights ultimately ended the game for USCB. On the day though, Murphy went 2-4 at the plate, adding two more RBI's to move his team-leading count to now 19 RBI's on the season. Olmo was 2-2 with one run scored and one RBI, and Matthews was 1-3 with a run scored and one RBI.
USCB is looking forward to their home series this weekend with Stillman College (Ala.). The two teams will play back-to-back double-headers Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3. The Friday double-header begins at 2 pm.
