Hardeeville, SC -- The visiting Milligan College (Tenn.) baseball team was able to put 13 runs across the plate to win the series 2-1 over USCB.
The Buffaloes opened the game with three runs in the first inning, thanks in large part to a triple from senior outfielder Chris Patterson, who went 2-4 on the day and had an important home run in the sixth inning of yesterday's first game.
The Sand Sharks were able to fight their way back to a tie ball game in third inning when outfielder
Alex Murphy went deep with a two-run shot, brining in
Chris Vazquez, who singled to left-center during his at-bat.
Unfortunately for the home team, they were not able to keep the Milligan offense in the dugout. The Buffaloes added five runs in the fourth inning when Patterson and Clayton Conner each had two-run doubles to put the visitors up for good.
The Sand Sharks added one more tally in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Cameron Smith hit a sacrifice fly to score
Noah Matthews, but they just couldn't overcome the strong pitching from Milligan. The Buffaloes finished the game adding one run each in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th innings. Senior outfielder Ryan Young added another home run on the day and the Buffaloes went on to win 12-4.
The Sand Sharks will next host Paine College (GA) on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. The starting time for the double-header is set to begin at 1 PM. Video and live stats will be available at www.uscbathletics.com.
