Hardeeville, SC -- The USCB baseball team found themselves down 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Sand Shark offense came to life.
The majority of the action began when seniorÂ
Cole Hamilton was hit by a pitch,
Alex Murphy then singled left field before
Charlie McGinnis singled to left field as well, driving in Hamilton.
Hunter Helms was able to score the RBI on the sacrifice fly to left center which brought Murphy across the plate.
Graham Hatfield then reached first on a walk from Lions' pitcher Evan Krenz before
Ryan McManus, pinch-hitting for
Cameron Smith, was able to drive in McGinnis.
Tristan Triplett then found the gap for a single up the middle, scoring
Nick Delbianco (courtesy running for Hatfield).
The offense picked back up in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Kelvin Brito hit a 3-run triple, scoring Delbianco, Murphy, and Hamilton. The Sand Sharks added another run, making it 10 on the day, when Smith doubled, bringing Brito home.
On the hill senior
Paxton Buckner threw 4.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs, while striking out two batters. Reliever
Javell Passley picked up the win after coming in for Buckner in the 5th.
The second game of the double-header was called short due to weather, so the Sand Sharks will be in action again this weekend when they host Sun Conference foe Keiser University for a 3-game series beginning Friday at 1 pm.
