Lake Wales, Fl.-- The USCB baseball team finished out their three-game series with the Warner University Royals this afternoon, splitting the double-header 12-1 and 7-18.
The Sand Sharks got the bats working in third inning of the first game when
Nick Delbianco hit the sacrifice fly to score
Cole Hamilton.
Chris Vazquez then added his own sacrifice fly to score
Alex Murphy.
USCB added two more runs in the fifth inning when Delbianco had his second RBI of the game, scoring Murphy, before Vazquez hit his second sacrifice fly of the game to bring home Delbianco.
The Sand Sharks put an exclamation point on the game scoring eight runs in the eighth inning before the game ended early due to the run-rule. The team used the small-ball approach to bring the runs home in the top half of the inning. Those scoring in the eighth were Vazquez,
Keith Olmo,
Noah Matthews,
Cameron Smith,
Tristan Triplett,
Charlie McGinnis, Hamilton and Murphy.
The Warner Royals were able to respond in the second game of the afternoon, outscoring the Sand Sharks 18-7 through seven innings. The offense took until the fourth inning to get going for USCB, when Olmo was able to score via an error by the Royals. The six other runs came in the fifth inning.
Murphy was able to find his sixth home run of the year in the fifth inning that scored
Mclean Hartz as well. Matthews found himself a 2-RBI single down the right field line, scoring Vazquez and Delbianco. Smith then hit a RBI-single through the left side, plating Olmo, and Matthews then came home via fielder's choice during
Graham Hatfield's appearance at the plate.
The Sand Sharks will come home for a double-header Tuesday afternoon when they host non-conference Brewton-Parker College (GA) beginning at 1 pm. Live video and stats will be available at
