Hardeeville, SC-- The USCB baseball team fell to the Brewton-Parker College (Ga.) Barons this afternoon at Richard Gray Sports Complex, 6-9.
The Sand Sharks were within one after three innings before both teams went silent for three innings. The Barons picked the offense back up in the seventh, where they were able to gain additional runs in each of the remaining frames.
The Sand Sharks' offense put four runs across the plate in the first three innings. In the first inning
Chris Vazquez picked up the RBI-single, which scored
Cole Hamilton. In the second inning when
Daniel Searles was able to bring in
Kelvin Brito on the fielder's choice, and
Cameron Smith later scored on a passed ball. The fourth run came in the third inning when Vazquez was able to take home when
Nick Delbianco forced the throw from the Barons' catcher, opening home for Vazquez.
The bats fell silent for the next three frames as both teams struggled to solve the relief pitching of the other side. Brewton-Parker found a sixth run in the seventh and an seventh run in the eighth.
In the top of the ninth BPC added two more insurance runs before USCBÂ took to the bottom half of the inning where they were able to find two more runs.
Alex Murphy had an RBI-single through the right side to score Hamilton a second time, and Brito earned the RBI-walk to force home Olmo.
The Sand Sharks will be heading to St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida, for a three-game Sun Conference series this weekend with the Bobcats. Live stats and video will be available atÂ
