Miami Gardens, FL-- The 7th-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats were able to sweep the three-game series with USCB yesterday evening and this afternoon in southern Florida.
Yesterday evening's game, the first in the series, ended 2-13, wherein the Sand Sharks struggled to solve the pitching of the Bobcats, but they still found a way to get on base by earning timely walks to put runners into scoring position.
Graham Hatfield and
Cole Hamilton were both able to fight through their appearances at the plate to earn RBI-walks, though Hamilton had to take a hit to earn his. Scoring for the Sand Sharks were
Chris Vazquez and Keith Olmo.
In today's double-header, the Sand Sharks found themselves unable to get the offense going and found themselves at the wrong end of a 0-10 final. Through the struggles, USCB found some positives. One of those being Vazquez going 2-3 at the plate and Olmo going 1-2. Both Vazquez and Olmo were able to reach on bunt singles in the top of the fourth.
The final game of the series Vazquez got things going for the Sand Sharks in the third inning with a double to right center that scored Olmo, who reached earlier on a walk in his trip to the plate. Hamilton then followed with his double down the right field line, scoring
Alex Murphy and Vazquez. Unfortunately, the offense sputtered there before the Bobcats were able to finish the game 7-3.
USCB will look to shed off this series and bounce back in Tuesday's tilt with Edward Waters (Fla.). The double-header is set to begin at 1 pm at Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville, SC. Live video and stats will be brought to you over at
