Hardeeville, SC-- The USCB baseball team was unable to overcome the Tigers of Edward Waters in their double-header this afternoon at Richard Gray Sports Complex, losing 1-6 and 2-17.
With one swing of the bat USCB was able to jump out to the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Alex Murphy led off the Sand Sharks' side with a home run over the left field fence. The home run moved Murphy's season total to seven and his team-leading RBI total to 30. With that home run, Murphy now stands alone as the USCB career home run leader with 14.
The Tigers would use a six-run sixth inning, though, to put the first game out of reach for USCB. In game one, Murphy went 2-3 at the plate, while
Nick Delbianco and
Kelvin Brito each went 1-3.
In game two the Sand Sharks had to play from behind for the majority. They found themselves down 0-3 going into the bottom of the second where Brito was able to grab himself a stand-up double to left center before coming home off a
Fremy Rosso single to left field.
USCB notched themselves their second run in the fifth inning when
Noah Matthews doubled down the left field line, Murphy singled up the middle and thenÂ
Hunter Helms singled through the left side to score Matthews.
The Sand Sharks were, however, unable to keep Edward Waters from powering their way through the second game, where the Tigers used a big eight-run sixth inning to shut things down for the USCB.
The team will look to bounce back this weekend when they host a big Sun Conference series with Thomas University (GA). The series begins Friday evening at 6:00 pm. Live stats and video will be made available at
