Hardeeville, SC-- The Sand Sharks came up just a bit short in their series opener with Thomas University (GA) tonight at Richard Gray, losing to the Night Hawks 11-13.

Chris Vazquez led the way for the Sand Sharks, going 4-5 at the plate with four RBI's and two runs scored. Among his hits, Vazquez recorded an RBI-double in the third, an RBI-triple in the sixth, and a two-RBI single down the left field line in the eighth.

Behind Vazquez was Kelvin Brito, who went 3-5 with two RBI's, Keith Olmo, who went 2-5 with one walk and one run scored, and Alex Murphy, who went 1-3 with three RBI's and three runs scored.

The Sand Sharks put together two significant rallies in the game. The first came in the third inning when USCB was able to plate four runs, and the second rally came in the eighth inning where they were able to score five more. The offense was alive and well, but USCB just couldn't put away the power of the Thomas lineup.

Daniel Wagner, who entered the game in the fourth inning, threw 5.1 innings in relief, giving up six hits, four runs and two walks while recording two strikeouts. Wagner looked strong in his outing, coming in at a critical moment with the team down 4-8 and allowed the Sand Sharks to work their way back into the game.
