Mt. Vernon, GA-- The USCB baseball team was unable to get past the Barons of Brewton-Parker College last night, dropping both games of the double-header, 3-9 and 5-6.
Down 0-3 the Sand Sharks were able to claw their way to a tie ballgame in the third and fourth innings. USCBÂ was able to earn their first run of the game when
Daniel Searles scored an unearned run off the wild pitch. In the fourth inning
Noah Matthews led off with a single before stealing second. Matthews would eventually make his way home with
Kelvin Brito when
Cameron Smith hit a two-run double.
Unfortunately for the Sand Sharks that's where the offense would stutter. The Barons went on to plate six more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game beyond reach for USCB.
As it is in sports, baseball can be cruel. Just as USCB was able to earn a walk-off single from Brito against College of St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon, Brewton-Parker was able to end things in the same fashion in game two of last night's double-header. With the score tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, Taz Worrell hit a walk-off single to win the game for the Barons 6-5.
In game two Brito led thw way for the Sand Sharks, going 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI's.
USCB will be headed down Ave Maria University this weekend for a three-game series beginning Friday at 1 pm.
