Ave Maria, FL-- The USCB baseball team is on the road this weekend for a three-game series with Sun Conference foe Ave Maria University. The Sand Sharks took the first game of the series last night by a score of 4-2.
Down 0-1 going into the top of the third inning, USCB looked to Hatfield to get things going.
Graham Hatfield led things off with a single up the middle.
Mclean Hartz entered the game to do the running duties and stole second before
Cole Hamilton reached first on the walk.
Tristan Triplett reached via fielder's choice and then watched as the Sand Sharks were able to each advance a base on an error at first base. That same error allowed Hartz to tie the game at 1-1. Hamilton then came in later off a
Chris Vazquez RBI to put the team up 2-1.
The Gyrenes tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom half of the third. The bats went silent again until the sixth inning when
Charlie McGinnis sent a full-count, two-run dinger over the wall to plate the winning run. USCBÂ went on to hold the score at 4-2 and pick up the win.
On the mound
Daniel Wagner went 6.1 innings, gave up 8 hits, 2 runs, walked 4 and struck out 4.
