Box Score 2 Ave Maria, FL-- The USCB baseball team will head home from Ave Maria University with the series win after splitting the double-header this afternoon, winning 5-4 and losing 5-10.
The Sand Sharks had to rally from behind again to earn the victory in game one of today's double-header. Down 1-4 going into the seventh inning,
Alex Murphy got things going with a single to center field,
Cole Hamilton getting hit by a pitch (22nd on the year), and
Noah Matthews singling up the middle to bring home Murphy.
In the eighth inning
Keith Olmo was brought home after stealing second and third before
Graham Hatfield brought him in with a single to right field.
The Sand Sharks put the finishing touches on the comeback in the 9th frame. The first two batters, Matthews and
Chris Vazquez, walked,
Tristan Triplett reached on a fielder's choice, and Olmo brought in Matthews and Vazquez with a double to right center.
On the mound,
Harrison Merck earned the win, going 3.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and striking out 1.
Zac Burke picked up the save.
The Gyrenes wrote a different script in game two, though, as they were able to use a 6-run fourth inning to push themselves beyond reach of the Sand Sharks. USCB was able to find runs 2nd, 3rd and 8th innings, but weren't able to overcome the deficit.
Noteworthy Performances:
- Olmo went 6-9 today with 2 runs, 3Â RBI's and 2 stolen bases.
- Matthews went 4-9 with 2 runs and 1 RBI
The Sand Sharks back on the road Tuesday afternoon in Jacksonville, Florida, for a double-header with Edward Waters. EWC took both games of the double-header in Hardeeville back on March 27, so USCBÂ will look forward to the opportunity to get those games back from the Tigers.
