HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA - The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team closed out its three-game series against the Lander Bearcats on Sunday, falling 18–5 as Lander completed the sweep. After USCB took an early lead Lander struck back with a five run and a seven run inning back to back to seal the win.
USCB jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the first inning. Noah Campbell led off with a single, followed by a double from Cooper McDaniel. Maddox Robinson then delivered a two-RBI double to cap three straight hits and give the Sand Sharks the early advantage.
Lander threatened in the second but left two runners on base. The Bearcats broke through in the third with a leadoff double that eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk, cutting the deficit to 2–1.
The Sand Sharks held the lead until the fifth inning, when Lander scored three runs to take a 4–2 advantage. After a single and a stolen base, an error on a pickoff attempt allowed the tying run to score. Later in the inning, a two-RBI single to right field gave the Bearcats the lead.
Lander added two more runs in the sixth inning. A leadoff triple set the tone, followed by a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 6–2.
The Bearcats broke through in the seventh, scoring five runs on a series of RBI singles to build an 11–2 lead.
USCB answered in the bottom half of the inning. After a walk and back-to-back singles loaded the bases, Andrew Walters drove in a run. Campbell followed with a two-RBI single, cutting the deficit to 11–5.
Lander responded with a seven-run eighth inning, highlighted by an RBI single, a bases-loaded walk, and multiple extra-base hits, pushing the score to 18–5.
Campbell led the Sand Sharks offensively with three hits, a run scored, and two RBIs, while Robinson also recorded two RBIs. Walters added an RBI in the loss.
USCB returns to action Friday, April 24, against Middle Georgia to close out the regular season.
