Box Score 2 Hardeeville, SC-- On a day that celebrated things far bigger than sports at Richard Gray, the USCB softball team took both games of the double-header from No. 20 Warner University (Fla.), winning 8-0 and 3-2.
The team put a cherry on top of the pre-game ceremonies by invoking the run rule in the first game. The Sand Sharks used a powerful 7-run fourth inning to put the Royals on their heels. A quick 1-2-3-fifth inning from
Abby Pac finished off game one. Pac is now 12-7 on the year after her shutout performance, going 5 innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out 3.
In game one the Sand Sharks went 11-23 at the plate while earning 4 walks against one of the best pitchers in the Sun Conference in Sylvia Welsh. Coming into the game, Welsh was 15-1 on the year with a 1.59 ERA, so it was important the bats got going against the Royals' ace.
In game two, the Sand Sharks found themselves down 0-1 going into the bottom of the sixth. That was all the motivation the team needed today and soon found themselves up 3-1, thanks in large part to a two-RBI double from
Kayla Boyle that scored
Kaitlyn O'Hearn and
Taylor Boykin.
Alexa Moore was hit by the pitch in her appearance before
Carrie Cochran was able to reach on an error that scored
Caroline Heaton (pinch running for Boyle).
Maria Molloseau handled the pitching duties in game two, where she went the complete 7 innings, giving up 7 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 4.
Noteworthy Performances:
- O'Hearn has had one of the hottest bats for USCB in the month of April, where she is batting .412 with 4 RBI's; today she went 3-5 with 3 runs scored.
- Also big for the Sand Sharks today was Moore, who went 3-4 and led the way with 3 RBI's.
USCB will hit the road again this week for a double-header against Thomas University (GA) on Wednesday, April 18. The Sand Sharks split the double-header at home with the Night Hawks back on April 3.
