Hardeeville, SC-- The USCB baseball team found a pair of wins over visiting College of St. Joseph (VT) this afternoon at Richard Gray, winning 7-6 and 13-12, with
Kelvin Brito capping off an exciting come-from-behind win in the second game.
In game one USCB was in a tight game right up to the end.
Chris Vazquez had an RBI-double to right field in the bottom of the first, scoring
Cole Hamilton.
Mclean Hartz hit an RBI-single scoring Brito in the second. Hamilton was then able to score
Javell Passley (courtesy running for
Graham Hatfield) on a one-run single through the left side. Brito brought the crowd at Richard Gray to life when he cracked his first home run as a Sand Shark over the right field fence to bring home two runs. Vazquez finished off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth when he hit a two-RBI single through the left side to bring in
Tristan Triplett and Hamilton.
On the mound in the game one was the trio of
Paxton Buckner,
Wyatt McCampbell and
Zac Burke. McCampbell earned the win with Burke picking up the save.
In the day's second game it became a slugfest with a total of 25 runs being scored. The Sand Sharks scored 10 runs in the last two innings to put themselves past the Fighting Saints.
Finding themselves down 11-3 in the bottom of the sixth, senior
Charlie McGinnis took matters into his own hands and supplied the spark needed to start the rally. McGinnis came in and led things off with a straight-away home run over the center field fence. The home run was his first of the season and fourth in his career with USCB.
Capping off the rally in the bottom of the seventh was the other home run man for the Sand Sharks,
Kelvin Brito. With one out and bases loaded, Brito stood coolly in the box and knocked a walk-off single into shallow center field by Brito that scored Vazquez and Triplett.
USCB will take to the road to face Brewton-Parker College Tuesday afternoon for a double-header set to begin 1 pm.
