USCB soccer set for Saturday evening showdown with Montreat College

Bluffton, S.C.—The USCB women's soccer team will be heading to Black Mountain, North Carolina this Saturday for an evening showdown with Montreat College of the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Sand Sharks have faced the Cavaliers one other time in regular season play, during the 2016 season, when USCB came out on top by a 4-0 score line at Fin Land Field in Bluffton.

Saturday will be the season opener for a Cavaliers team that went 1-8-1 at home a year ago. This year's team, though, will be led by first-year head coach, Tina Murphy. Murphy has an outstanding track record of success though, as she was a standout talent at the University of North Carolina, where she won four national championships with the Tar Heels, so it will be important for the Sand Sharks to prepare for a new mentality in Montreat.

USCB is coming off a 4-0 loss to Division 1 USC Upstate last Friday night in Spartanburg, S.C. and will be looking to have a strong performance to bounce back in the early goings of this season.

"The team is looking forward to getting back onto the field this weekend. We made some mistakes at USC Upstate last Friday that we've been working hard to correct over the last few training sessions. The girls are excited to head to North Carolina on Saturday for what should be a good game," said coach Jay Harris.

Kickoff for the contest will be Saturday, August 25 at 7:15 PM EDT.
