Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sand Sharks on Three-Game Winning Streak, Take Down Brenau 2-0

Bluffton, SC-- After a lengthy weather delay, the USCB women's soccer team took the pitch and dispatched the visiting Brenau University (Ga.) Golden Tigers 2-0.

The sloppy field conditions slowed the pace of the game to a near crawl at times, and finding the right adjustments to open the Golden Tigers' defense proved difficult in the first half.

Hannah Salus was able to break the game open just 12 minutes into the second half. After freshman Kaylee Kumar found herself on top the box, surrounded by the opposition, she had the wherewithal to chip the goalkeeper for an on-running Salus to put away what would prove to be the game-winner. The assist on the play marks the first point of Kumar's career as a Sand Shark.

In the 77th minute, a loose play down the left side was collected by Anna Gignilliat, who turned and sent a hard cross across the top of the six-yard box where Salus was there for the one-touch finish.

The Sand Sharks were then able to set the cruise control and ride out the game. Afterward, Coach Jay Harris noted, "It was tough to come out after the weather-delay, but both teams had to do it. It was about coming out and getting the job done, and we were able to do that today."

In goal, Logan Leask stopped all seven Golden Tigers' shots on goal on way to collecting her second clean sheet of the season, improving her record to 3-1.

Next Saturday the Sand Sharks will travel to #5 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) for a 3:00 PM game against the Red Hawks.
