Pulaski, Tenn.-- Defense was the name of the game for USCB on the road this afternoon against No. 6 Martin Methodist. The Sand Sharks had a game plan and stuck to it, giving the Redhawks all they could handle in a 1-0 loss at MMC Grissom Pitch.
The game plan was simple: be organized defensively and pick your moments to attack. For large parts of the match, the Sand Sharks were able to frustrate their opponents, limiting them to low-percentage shots from distance, while keeping their composure as a unit. For 74 minutes USCB held tight before the Redhawks were able to break through with a goal from leading scorer, Millene Cabral, who now has 13 on the year.
After the game, interim head coach
Jay Harris said, "I am extremely proud of the way we handled ourselves against one of the top teams in the nation. The girls stepped up to the challenge and made it hard for them to break us down. We frustrated them for large parts of the game, but they are a quality team and found the goal they needed. We are going to be taking away many positives from this performance."
In goal for the Sand Sharks was junior
Logan Leask. Leask collected 11 saves on the day.
The Sand Sharks are back in action next Saturday, September 15, when they host Coker College at Fin Land Field. Kick off for the contest is set for 4:00 pm.
