MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - After traveling to Miami Gardens, Fla. last weekend, USCB women's soccer will make the trek back down to south Florida again, as the Sand Sharks will square off with St. Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 12 p.m.
About USCB
The Sand Sharks are 7-5 overall on the year and 3-2 in Sun Conference matches. USCB is currently on a three-game win streak, as it has defeated Warner, Florida Memorial and Thomas during that stretch.
In that three-game winning streak, USCB has outscored the opposition by 10 goals, 14-4. Anna Gignilliat has accounted for seven of the 14 USCB goals. The senior increased her season total to 14, which extends the USCB record for single-season goals scored. Also tallying goals in the three-game stretch was Mari Kalvatn, Lexi Kaeser, Julia Gherardi and Teyah Lindo.
In USCB's most recent game (versus Thomas), the Sand Sharks upended the Night Hawks, 3-2, at Fin Land Field. Three different Sand Sharks, Lindo, Kaeser and Gignilliat, scored a goal for USCB in the one-goal win. Lindo tied the game at 1-1 in the 44th minute, while Kaeser and Gignilliat tallied second-half goals to lift USCB to victory.Â
On the year, Gignilliat has a team-best 14 goals, while rookie forward Kaeser has the second-most on the team with five goals. Four Sand Sharks, Allison Schaffer, Gherardi, Brooke Newman and Hannah Salus, are all tied for third on the squad with three goals each.
Between the pipes, Logan Leask has started 11 of the 12 games this year. She has amounted over 920 minutes and has corralled 38 saves.Â
Scouting St. Thomas
The Bobcats welcome USCB to Miami Gardens with a 6-3-1 overall mark and a 3-1-1 record in TSC matches. Like the Sand Sharks, STU is also on a win streak, as it has won the last two games - Warner and Florida National. St. Thomas is also on a three-game unbeaten streak, as it also earned a 2-2 tie versus Thomas on Oct. 5.
St. Thomas has scored 36 total goals this year, 3.6 goals per game average. Sandy Benito paces the squad with six goals in 10 starts. Right behind her is Katharina Jullich, Kayla Jackson and Andrea manzur Wunsch with five goals apiece. Jullisch leads the team with five assists.
In goal, Melanie Lefebvre has started 10 games and has amounted over 835 minutes. She has a strong 1.18 goals against average and has stopped 21 shots on goal. She also has two shutouts to her name this year - SCAD and Florida National. Â
