BLUFFTON, S.C. - After playing two straight road games, USCB soccer returns to Fin Land Field to play host to Ave Maria on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 12 p.m.
About USCB
USCB returns to the friendly confines of Fin Land Field with a 7-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in Sun Conference games. The Sand Sharks are strong at home this year (3-1 at Fin Land Field), as they have only lost one game. The Sand Sharks upended South Carolina State, Warner and Thomas at home, while dropping its lone match to No. 1 Keiser.Â
In USCB's most recent game at SCAD, the two clubs went into overtime. The overtime match was USCB's second extra-period match this season, while it was SCAD's fourth overtime game in 2019. The Sand Sharks started the game quickly when Anna Gignilliat tallied her 15th goal of the season in the 11th minute. SCAD made tactical changes in the second half and capitalized with a late goal (81st minute) to force extra time. With time running down in the first overtime session, SCAD collected the game-winning goal off a free kick.
In TSC matches this year, Gignilliat leads the team with eight goals. The senior has recorded half of USCB's goals in conference play this year. The only other Sand Shark to record multiple goals against league foes is freshman Lexi Kaeser with three. Five other Sand Sharks - Mari Kalvatn, Mina Ljosland, Julia Gherardi, Teyah Lindo and Gabriella Baldo - have found the back of the net against conference rivals.Â
Logan Leask and Aryss Gomez have combined for seven starts in net in conference play this year. Leask has started six of those matches and has totaled nearly 550 minutes between the pipes. The senior totes a 2.3 goals against average and has recorded 35 saves. Gomez started at Florida Memorial and recorded a save while facing two shots.Â
Scouting Ave Maria
The Gyrenes are 1-13 on the year and 0-7 in TSC matches. They are currently on a 13-game losing streak and are 1-7 in games away from Ave Maria, Fla. Ave Maria has been playing well in the last three games, as all three matches have been decided by one goal.
Ave Maria's offense is led by Meghan Precord, who has started in 13 of the 14 games this year. She has five goals and has taken 21 shots (14 on frame) in 2019. Hannah Lawrence has three goals, as Lawrence and Precord are the only two Gyrenes with multiple goals scored this season.
Precord, Lawrence and Haley Iacona are in a three-way tie for first in assists with two apiece.
AMU has used three goalkeepers this year in Molly Jensen, Amanda Stacy and Sofia Lopez. Stacy and Lopez have played in seven matches each, while Stacy has seen the most time in net (630 minutes). Stacy also has a team-best 2.00 goals against average and has totaled 41 saves en route to a .745 save percentage.Â
