BLUFFTON, S.C. - After a week-long break from the pitch, USCB women's soccer hosts No. 1 Keiser on Saturday, Oct. 5 at noon in the Sand Sharks' Sun Conference home opener.
Promotions for Saturday
USCB is hosting several great promotions for the conference home opener. The league contest will be a Navy Out, where all Sand Shark fans are encouraged to wear navy to the contest.
Also, USCB will have giveaways at the entrance - Chilly Towel and Thundersticks. Due to a limited amount, fans are encouraged to arrive early to receive the promotions.
About USCB
USCB enters Saturday's match with a 4-4 overall mark and a 0-1 record in Sun Conference action. Saturday's match against Keiser will mark the first home match for the Sand Sharks since Aug. 8 against South Carolina State. USCB won that match, 4-0, as three different players tallied a goal in the game.
In USCB's most recent match, the Sand Sharks fell to Johnson & Wales, 3-0, on the road. The Sand Sharks outshot the Wildcats, 19-16, but could not find the back of the net in the Sun Conference opener.
On the year, USCB has scored 24 goals and has recorded 19 assists on those goals. The Sand Sharks have also outshot the opposition, 135-70, including a 79-38 advantage in shots on goal. Opponents have scored just 13 goals against USCB this year for a 1.79 goals against average.
Anna Gignilliat leads the USCB offense with seven goals and 16 points. Three Sand Sharks - Allison Schaffer, Brooke Newman and Hannah Salus - have netted three goals apiece this year.
Logan Leask continues to man the net for USCB. She has started all eight games and has totaled over 650 minutes between the pipes. She has collected 22 saves and has faced 47 shots this year.
Scouting No. 1 Keiser
Keiser is the nation's top team, and the Seahawks have been the number one team for the last two weeks in the NAIA Coaches' Poll. The Seahawks are 9-1 overall and 2-0 in TSC action. Their only loss was to William Carey in overtime, who was ranked number one in the country at that time.
Matilda Ovenberger is Keiser's leading goal scorer, as she has tallied 11 goals in eight games. She leads the team with 23 points and 50 shots. Emma Holmskov is second on the squad with four goals this year, and the Seahawks also have five other players that have scored multiple goals this season.
Nina Haeberlin is Keiser's main goalkeeper, as the senior has started all 10 games for the Seahawks. She has totaled almost 850 minutes in net and sports an impressive 0.32 goals against average. Of the 55 shots faced, Haeberlin has corralled 23 saves.
