Soccer Hosts Senior Day in Home Finale on Saturday

BLUFFTON, S.C. - With four graduating senior on the 2019 roster, USCB women's soccer will honor them prior to Saturday's home finale at noon, as the Sand Sharks will face No. 4 Southeastern at Fin Land Field.

USCB enters the home finale with a 9-7 overall record and a 5-4 mark in Sun Conference matches. The Sand Sharks are currently on a two-game winning streak, as they pitched a pair of shutouts over Ave Maria and Webber International. 

During its two-game winning streak, USCB outscored its opposition, 7-0. Of those seven goals, USCB used five different players to record a goal - Julia Gherardi, Mina Ljosland, Madeline Matusik, Hannah Salus and Teyah Lindo. In the 4-0 win at home versus Ave Maria, transfer Aryss Gomez earned the start in goal and posted a career-high eight saves. Not to be outdone, Logan Leask started between the pipes at Webber, and the senior corralled nine saves in the three-goal win.

On Saturday versus Southeastern, USCB will recognize four seniors - Moa Johansson, Anna Gignilliat, Rileigh Olsen and Leask. Between the four Sand Sharks, they have combined for 171 matches played, 126 matches started, 27 goals, 11 assists, 65 points, seven game-winning goals, 309 saves and 12 shutouts.

Scouting No. 4 Southeastern

Ranked top-5 in the country, the Fire travels to Bluffton with an impressive 14-3 overall record and an 8-1 mark in league contests. The Fire has already claimed a spot in the Sun Conference tournament and will be the two seed in the postseason tournament. 

Southeastern is currently on a four-game winning streak, as it has upended Florida Memorial, Thomas, St. Thomas and SCAD during that stretch. SEU nearly lost on the road to St. Thomas, 2-1, as the decisive goal was scored in the second overtime session.

The Fire is strong on both sides of the ball, as they have scored 77 goals and have only allowed 13 goals in 17 games this year. Leading the Fire offense is Uchenna Kanu with 31 goals in 17 starts. She has also tallied 15 assists to go along with another team-best 77 points in 2019. Of her 31 goals scored, nine has been game-winners. 

Bania Duran is another offensive threat, as she has tallied 13 goals this year. Overall, the No. 4 team in the nation has four players with six goals or more this year.

In net, Southeastern is led by Holly Eddins. She has made 16 starts and has amassed over 1,376 minutes. She totes a strong 0.85 goals against average and has a save percentage of .800.

What's Next?

Depending on the result of the match on Saturday, USCB will wait to see if it will receive a berth into the Sun Conference Tournament. USCB will claim a spot into the tournament with a win, a tie or a Thomas loss or tie.
