Webber International took advantage in the bottom of the first, as it tallied four runs off four hits. Carlo Mancillas had a three-RBI double for WIU, while Quinsly Balentien posted a two-out, RBI single.
After a scoreless second inning, USCB cut the deficit in half thanks to a Wenthe two-out, two-run home run. The homer to center field extended his school career home run record to 22. The two-run shot also brought his season total to nine.
WIU extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run frame. All three of the runs were scored on Sand Shark defensive miscues.
Despite being down by five runs (7-2), the Sand Sharks had a big fifth inning to knot the game at 7-all. Smith started the rally with a leadoff single to center. After an error, McKinney and Wenthe posted back-to-back, run-scoring base hits. After a strikeout, the Sand Sharks took advantage of another Warrior error to make it a 7-5 game. With two outs, Terrell and Sorbara each smacked RBI singles to tie the game at 7-apiece.Â
In the bottom of the fifth, WIU regained the lead with a lone, unearned run.
However, the Sand Sharks quickly retaliated in the top of the sixth to knot the game for a second time, 8-8. Hamilton and Wenthe reached base safely to put two Sand Sharks on base, and David Villafane made it hurt with a RBI single.
