DUE WEST, S.C. - Behind a record-breaking performance from senior Anna Gignilliat, the USCB soccer team downed Erskine, 6-0, on Monday at Huggins Field.

How It Happened
Just like the season opener versus South Carolina State, USCB made quick work to get on the board. In fact, it only took 21 seconds for the Sand Sharks to find the back of the net. Metzold corralled a loose ball, and the junior flicked the ball to her left to Gignilliat. With the goalkeeper out of position, Gignilliat slotted her shot in the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead.Â
USCB quickly doubled its advantage five minutes later when Gignilliat recorded yet another goal. Gignilliat split the Fleet centerbacks and found the ball at her feet. She ripped a shot with a pressing goalkeeper, but the shot attempt was saved. However, she was able to regain possession, and the forward flicked the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Freshman Ljosland joined in on the scoring in the 16th minute, when she recorded her first collegiate goal. Newman fed a through pass, and Ljosland found the ball and started up field. With a pressing goalkeeper, the Norway native found the right side of the net to advance the Sand Shark lead to 3-0.Â
The Sand Sharks didn't stop there in the first half, as Gignilliat recorded two more first-half goals. She tallied goals in the 23rd and 37th minutes of the contest.
At the halftime break, USCB held a commanding 5-0 lead over Erskine.
USCB continued to dominate possession but couldn't find the net early in the second half. The Sand Sharks had a great chance to score in the 50th minute when Lexi Kaeser just missed the top-right corner on a shot attempt.
At the 72nd minute, USCB finished off the scoring when Erskine was charged with a hand ball within the 18-yard box. Schaffer took the penalty kick, and she drilled the top-left corner to seal the 6-0 win for USCB.
