PULASKI, Tenn. - Going against one of the toughest teams in the NAIA, USCB women's soccer fell to No. 4 Martin Methodist, 4-1, on Tuesday at MMC Grissom Pitch.

How It Happened

Martin Methodist started the game quickly, as the Redhawks scored the game's first goal in the second minute. Adisa Amang netted the goal, which was her second of the 2019 campaign.

USCB started to find a groove at the seven minute mark when the Sand Sharks began to pepper the No. 4 Martin Methodist net. USCB eventually found the net in the eighth minute when Newman knotted the contest at 1-1. It was her third goal of the season, which is tied for the second-most on the squad this year.

Martin Methodist responded five minutes later when Amang tallied another goal. The goal gave MMC the 2-1 lead in the 13th minute.

With just over 18 minutes left in the first half, No. 4 Martin Methodist doubled its advantage, as Natasuna Sugishita found the back of the net. Yuki Watari and Amang were both credited with an assist on the Redhawks' third goal.

Despite being down two goals, USCB and Martin Methodist were tied at 9-9 in total shots, while MMC only had a 2-1 advantage in corners.

The Sand Sharks didn't cave against the talented Redhawks, as they continued to attack the No. 4 team in the country. Mari Kalvatn, Newman, Lexi Kaeser, Matusik and Gignilliat all took shots that forced saves. However, none of the attempts got past the MMC goalkeeper.

USCB finished the contest with a 17-11 advantage in shots and a 9-5 lead in shots on goal.
