How It Happened

Francis Marion opened the contest early with a tally in the seventh minute. FMU's leading scorer Dayle McEwen recorded the go-ahead goal early in the contest and was assisted by Anna Capra.

USCB took its first shot in the 26th minute when Anna Gignilliat connected with a shot on goal. However, FMU's goalkeeper made the save.

The Patriots took three more shots to end the first half, as all three were on goal.

At the halftime break, Francis Marion held a narrow 1-0 advantage. FMU had a 4-1 lead in total shots, but USCB held the 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

USCB matched Francis Marion in the first half, as the Sand Sharks scored a goal in the opening minutes of the second half. USCB was fouled by FMU inside the penalty area, and Schaffer took the penalty and tied the game at 1-1.

Matusik had a pair of chances to score in the second half, as she forced the FMU goalkeeper make two saves in the 63rd and 70th minutes. However, the Patriot goalie saved both shots on goal.

After 90 minutes of play, the two teams went into overtime. It was the first time this year USCB has played in overtime.

Both teams had chances to score in the first overtime session, as each team had a shot on goal. However after a 15-minute overtime period, the two teams were still tied at one apiece.

Unfortunately in the 104th minute, Francis Marion broke the tie with the game-winning goal. McEwen recorded the second go-ahead goal to give FMU the 2-1 victory.
